Maharaja Me began
in New York City in the mid-90s as a partnership between founders John Dalal and Aaron Sauberan. When the two met, John was working alongside his father importing Indian textiles and was involved with many innovative apparel and home furnishings designers and Aaron was a fine arts student who loved to design and sew.
It was quite a match!
Shortly after Aaron finished graduate school, they moved to California and John as the head of Maharaja Me focused on a select group of clients. John’s passion for and deep knowledge of India’s textile cultures deepened what would become Maharaja Me’s niche: bringing small-scale Indian textiles to like-minded design clients.
John and Aaron became busy parents to their son Raul in 2002, and so, Maharaja Me remained small which allowed the business to grow with intention alongside their clients who also tended to be small, creative, passion-driven businesses.
John suddenly passed away in September, 2019. His husband Aaron decided to continue Maharaja Me to sustain and deepen the connections and relationships that John began decades ago.
